Gamening is a term that describes the process of playing computer games on a computer, generally with the use of a computer keyboard and mouse. A computer game or video game is any video game that involves interaction by a user with an external input device or interface (such as a joystick, mouse, keyboard, or infrared motion sensor) to produce visual feedback to the participant. These types of games are used for entertainment, education, social interaction, or other purposes. There is an ever-expanding market that includes computer and video games for children, teenagers, and adults. In fact, in some areas of the world, video and computer gambling are illegal.

One of the challenges parents have when it comes to using online gaming systems with their children is making sure that they allow enough time to play the games. In many cases, parents and children must establish a set amount of time that the child can play before establishing safety settings to assist in avoiding Internet predators and other risk-fearing people. Video game manufacturers have responded to this challenge in various ways. Some of these security measures include automatic time limit controls that prevent too much time from going by after a player has spent a certain amount of time playing a game.

Another challenge that parents face is making sure that the child is not exposed to the content or events that they may not find offensive. Video games, in particular, are often targeted toward younger audiences and have content and events that are still very graphic and realistic. Some game titles are even violent or contain strong language. With this in mind, it is still unclear as to the degree to which children can interact in real-world gaming settings. Is it safe to assume that an 8-year-old can have a conversation with a Space Invaders game?

While some are concerned about the prospect of children having too much freedom to engage in non-essential virtual reality, other worry about the potential for violence in gaming. Many of these concerns are valid. However, researchers have noted that overall, there is no evidence that games, when played online or offline, result in harm to children. Video game developers have taken measures to ensure that there are strict age limitations and that users must sign up for a parental account. The ultimate responsibility falls on the parent to ensure that their child is well-protected within a safe virtual environment.

In addition to the concern over violence, there are also questions about privacy. Gamers have become increasingly vocal about their desire to maintain control over how their personal information is protected. While many games allow players to make choices regarding how their personal information is protected, it is still unclear as to whether this level of control actually deters a player from engaging in virtual reality. Privacy concerns have prompted several attempts to create games that provide greater degrees of customization. Whether or not these efforts actually reduce the risk of gaming addiction remains a mystery.

There are a number of solutions to the safety issue of online gaming. There are currently a number of safety measures being refined by game developers and producers. They have been unable to address the issue of excessive gaming. However, with the growing popularity of interactive games, it is expected that these efforts will become more forthcoming.
